An important issue for Arkansas voters will be on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot. 2020 Arkansas Transportation Sales Tax Continuation Ballot Question – Issue 1 will ask voters to continue or discontinue a one-half percent sales and use tax dedicated to fund state highways, county roads, city streets and bridges.
This critical funding is set to expire in 2023. The intent of Issue 1 is to continue this needed revenue stream that provides dedicated funding for the state’s roads and bridges,” said an informational pamphlet about the issue. A “yes” vote secures the funding.
“Vote for Roads. Vote for Issue 1” campaign strives to ensure Arkansas voters understand the importance of a safe and reliable infrastructure system. The lack of an adequate, long-term, stable and sustainable funding source for Arkansas roads will negatively impact all of Arkansas.
“At risk is the loss of a much needed and existing funding source that provides for our state’s highways, roads, streets and bridges. The failure of Issue 1 would result in a detrimental funding gap to maintain our highway system. Additionally, counties and cities across the state would lose a substantial portion of their local road and bridge budgets.”
