Better Roads

for Every Arkansan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 10, 2020

LITTLE ROCK – The Vote for Roads. Vote for Issue 1. campaign has received the endorsement of Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.

General Rutledge released the following statement:

“Today I am joining with Governor Hutchinson and announcing my support for Issue 1. Each year I travel to every corner of this great State and I know, first-hand, the problems with Arkansas roadways. It is not enough to be aware of the problem or talk about the problem. It is about funding to solve the problem. I have heard from county judges, mayors and Arkansans and I support Issue 1 because I will not rob our State of the projected $8.6 billion in economic activity it would generate over the next decade.”

In response to receiving the endorsement, Vote for Roads. Vote for Issue 1. Chairwoman Shannon Newton issued the following statement:

“We are excited to have the full support for Issue 1 from General Rutledge and thank her for her endorsement. As she has traveled across the state and spoken with Arkansans in every corner, she has personally seen the need for long-term and adequate funding for roads. We appreciate her commitment to support necessary funding that will ensure every Arkansan has access to safe and reliable roads without raising taxes.”

Vote for Roads. Vote for Issue 1. is a Legislative Question Committee advocating for the passage of Issue 1 in the General Election of November 2020. Issue 1 seeks to ensure sustainable resources for the safety and quality of Arkansas highways, county roads, city streets, and bridges.

Better roads, a stronger economy, and a safer Arkansas—without raising taxes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

November 15, 2019

LITTLE ROCK – At a news conference this morning in Little Rock, Governor Asa Hutchinson officially kicked off Arkansas’s “Vote for Roads. Vote for Issue 1.” campaign to continue funding for Arkansas highways, roads, and bridges at no additional cost to taxpayers.

The Governor was joined by groups from all four corners of the state, including mayors, county judges, small-business owners, and industry groups from the Trucking Association to the State Chamber to representatives of the agriculture community.

“A vote for Issue 1 means better roads, a stronger economy, and a safer Arkansas—without raising taxes,” said Governor Hutchinson. “It will benefit every resident and every small business that calls Arkansas home, and I am delighted to lead this effort.”

Passage of Issue 1 will continue to provide more than $205 million a year of significant funding to maintain, improve, and construct nearly 7,000 miles of interstate and highway miles and repair and replace dangerous bridges throughout the state—all without raising taxes.

If Issue 1 succeeds, cities and counties will continue to receive $43 million annually, again, without any new tax on Arkansas residents. (Without this continuation of funding, cities and counties will lose millions from their budgets each year.)

Finally, a vote for Issue 1 will support thousands of jobs each year and provide more than $8.2 billion in economic activity over the next decade.
